As summer approaches, so does the stress of having the perfect swim suit. Every year, I make it a mission to find the best, coolest and fashionable bathing suit.
Sometimes I’ve had to have it tailored, ordered online or paid crazy amounts for it. This year though, I decided to visit as many places as possible and try on every option that caught my eye.
Here is the first batch of them!
But first you should open up this song and play it in the background! It is a great, fun, cool summer jam!
First up, I visited PLAYERO, a local surf shop with a few stores around the island to try some of their stuff
This AMBSN trunk instantly caught my eye. The light yellow swimsuit with the pink flamingos definitely stood out amongst a sea of stripes, checks and solids.
The fit was great, not too short yet over the knee, and the fabric comfortable. Price tag: $64
Next up, this Vans striped board short. Although on the short side, it still was a little too long for my taste, hitting the middle of the knee. Plus the hot pink accent just wasn’t enough to make it fun for me.
Price tag: $54.50
This color blocked Rip Curl bathing suit caught my attention cause of the clash between the blue and yellow but the flimsy fabric was a little too drape-y for me and the fit too baggy.
Price tag: $64.50
After Playero, I headed over to Pacsun.
Pacsun, as you may know is one of my favorite stores. They always have a good variety of skate and surf styles and it also has that west coast/island laid back vibe that I so love.
As you probably guessed, I saw this floral board short by Vans and instantly fell in love. The brown background set against the colorful flowers sold me instantly on the short. Plus, the fit and fabric were perfect.
Price tag: $54.50
After that, I tried this RVCA retro board short. At first, I thought I liked it but when I actually looked at it, the color was so boring and the print didn’t stand out. Also, it was too long.
Price tag; $54.50
Following this, I went to Zara to try some edgier, more fashion-y styles.
What they had there was the classic European trunk. Between 6-8 different prints but pretty much the same cut. All for $29.90
The floral was a given I’d try cause it’s right on trend but I felt it looked a little bit too feminine for my taste due to the choice of flower print.
The polka dot one, which they also had in blue, I loved. But my banana friend, Claudia, thought they kinda looked like boxers so that was out of the question.
How could I not try the camo ones?! Being the pattern of the season I was instantly drawn to them. Even though they were short, I really liked them. Thought they gave a kinda James Bond vibe. Still, I’m not as fit as I’d like to be to rock a trunk this short.
Finally, for now, I headed to American Eagle. I’ve had a few of their bathing suits and have really liked them. Their choices are usually on the safer side but it’s good to try if you’re taller.
As soon as we got to the board shorts, Claudia liked this one but I wasn’t sold on it. After trying it on, I really liked it. The tribal pattern was pretty cool and right on trend. The only problem? It’s too long. It has a 10″ inseam but I’m only 5’8.
Price tag: $29.95
Finally, I tried this ombré one. Blue is my favorite color so it’s a safe choice and I’ve always loved it paired with neon accents and the ombré effect is one of my favorites. When I had it on, I didn’t like it quite as much plus I also had the length problem.
Price tag: $29.95
Stay tuned for the next chapter!
